Hawaii ~ Day 4 ~ Waterfalls

April, Kate and I all loaded up the older kids and took them to see some waterfalls. We were so excited to go hiking and play in the water. Jake was great and offered to stay with Rebekah while she napped so I could go and have some fun. We go to the first one and realized it was only a vantage point. So we took some pictures.
From left to right ~ Cole, Elizabeth, Olivia & Jacob. These guys all got along to well! The McKenna's have wonderful children and they were all great with our kids. Olivia and Jacob were probably the funniest. They are only 3 years apart and acted a lot like big sister & annoying little brother. She would tell him what to do (or not to do) and he would sometimes listen and sometimes just change enough because he knows what she's asking but not enough to stop annoying her. It was funny to watch. I kept thinking that if only he'd understand his sister is going to do this same thing to him in a very short amount of time :)
We had the kids all decked out in their swim wear so we could get wet on the hike's that didn't happen :) Jacob was modeling his Spiderman shorts and his super fast Lightning shoes. And you can see the excitement of posing for the camera when we want to take a serious picture...
We had passed a sign for another waterfall so we hopped back in the Jeeps and headed back a little ways. We were sure this would be the one. When we got close we saw a turn off with a bathroom so we stopped (and used it) and realized it was just another view and no way to walk to it. We were pretty disappointed but still they were very pretty!
So we decided to head back to a new beach that was only about 10 minutes from our house. We didn't want to be too far away in case Rebekah woke up. This was an awesome beach! It was so much fun to be there and be able to go in the water with Jacob and play. He and I went right in and played in the waves. They weren't that big but good enough to boogie board and that meant Jacob had to hold our hand if he played in the surf. In fact one time he wanted to do it alone and the wave flipped him all the way over. I "lost" him in the whitewater of the wave when it crashed. We were in very shallow water but I couldn't see him until the water died down - it was only a second but it did scare both of us. I tried to act like it was not big deal and how brave he was but it did scare him. So I talked him into staying in for a few more just so he wouldn't be scared next time and then he stayed on the beach playing in the sand.
Cole and Elizabeth just rode the waves in over and over! It was great.
The beach was down this rode and not really marked. It wasn't necessarily a public beach area but it wasn't "private". So it was not crowded and not very big either. In fact to the left of this picture there was an inlet from a river that feeds into the ocean. Pretty cool!
And this was the view to the right. We drove down that little mountain/hill to get to the beach. Jake, Mike and Rebekah all joined us down here shortly after we arrived.
