We had our first snow last week! It was so much more fun now that Jacob is old enough to actually go outside and enjoy it. This was the first day it started to snow - just a few inches but enough to play in before the blizzard hit.

I have to say how blessed we are with all of Jacob's snow "equipment". Our friends in Washington gave us the bibs that fit him perfectly and the boots are from Jacob's nephew Micah!

Jacob loved to play in the snow! It was so much fun watching him.

He was trying to throw the snow up in the air but it was a little hard with the mittens on. Jake was trying to show him how to make a snowball.

It was very cold so we couldn't stay out too long but he had a great time.

Now this was after the blizzard - the wind was insane and it was FREEZING! In the afternoon the wind died down enough that you could try to blow the snow and it might stay that way. Jake had to first dig his way into the garage and then all around the garage door so he could get it open.

When my parents were visiting last spring (before they moved here) my dad found a heavy duty
snow blower at a garage sale - it is amazing! Now a benefit of them living right next door with only a small garage is that the snow blower gets to stay in our garage - which means Jake gets to use it first. Boys and their toys! I didn't take a picture of my dad the day before - he used it three times even though the big snow was coming the next day - he just couldn't stand it. In fact when it was time for dinner we were waiting for my dad because he was going up and down the street taking care of the neighbors sidewalks. It was pretty funny but I do have to say every dime is worth it in comparison to shoveling the snow by hand!

Jake had a short run with the snow blower and my dad "supervised" and then they traded and Jake cleaned up with the shovel. They were outside for several hours doing both driveways and sidewalks. It may be easier but not necessarily less time consuming with a snow blower. Plus Jake did our neighbors sidewalk when hers wouldn't start.

You can see my dad struggling to get through the snow - the end of the driveway is the worst because the snow plows make it almost twice as high with the street snow.

You can see how deep it was by my dad's legs. It was beautiful outside especially since everyone was able to stay home and be safe. This storm pretty much shut down Iowa in the afternoon Tuesday and all day Wednesday and Thursday as well. We still have all the snow on the grassy areas but the streets are clear with some patches of ice. We are excited to share a white Christmas with my parents this year!!
